The Inspection…

07/20/2013

The inspection and appraisal are done and in order to secure the loan to purchase the house the following must be done first:

Install smoke detectors (easy enough)

Strap down the water heater (makes sense)

Replace missing shakes on the siding (understandable)

Paint the entire outside of the house (WHAT?!?!?!?)

The house was built in 1924 and no one knows when it was last painted, and we can all agree it wasn’t done recently.  Because no one knows that means we can not tell whether it’s lead paint so it all has to be painted.  The downside is painting a house that you don’t own yet but the glass is half full and at least we got to pick out the colors!  This of course meant that there wasn’t any time to test out sample colors/combinations or agonize over our choice for weeks before hand.  After browsing the Houzzes with shake exteriors we selected this:

facade-window-door-paint

Kerem plans on doing most of the work himself (with the help of his esteemed assistant) but in this case we didn’t have a choice but hire a painter.  So Manuel showed up and got to work:

Sandblasted! Can you tell?

Pressure washed! Can you tell?

On a side note: This palm tree is one of the first things to go.  It ruins every photo we take of the outside plus it’s awkward sitting out there all by it’s lonesome.  Next on the chopping block is that picket fence.
